Green Packaging: A Must for a Safer Biosphere

August 2, 2021

Packaging is an important part of dispatching goods for organizations of any scale or type. It helps to protect the product from damage and keeps them in good condition until they reach their destination. Sustainable packaging is the development and use of packaging which results in improved sustainability. This kind of packaging is designed in a manner as to involve use of recyclable materials that reduce the environmental impact and ecological footprint.

The increased demand of packaging products, which are mostly nonrenewable, has resulted in increased packaging waste and consequent disposal problems that ultimately result in pollution. Again enhanced consumption of trees to manufacture packaging materials has resulted in depletion of natural resources. As such, there is a need for eco-friendly packaging.

The green packaging design fulfills the needs of packaging material for businesses and other organization without sacrificing the environment. Green packaging materials help to reduce, recycle, and re-use the packaging materials. These nature-friendly packaging materials help to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, reduce global warming and the greenhouse gases. In addition, they remove tons of plastic and other non-degradable materials form our landfills.

They eliminate the use of PVC (polyvinyl chloride), reduce part weights, remove additional packaging as well as seek alternatives to minimize waste throughout the entire supply chain. The materials are Polylactide Acid (PLA) Plastics, Bagasse (Sugar Cane Pulp) and more. Even though the cost of producing the products out of these is little high than other packaging, it is found out in a survey that consumers are willing to pay few bucks more to get the bio-friendly packaging. They are aware of their sustainability and the environmental issues they address.

A study conducted by industry research firm Freedonia Group forecasts demand for green packaging to increase 3.4 percent annually to $43.9 billion in 2013. The markets that have a high demand of the green methodology are that of the compostable food containers, cardboard boxes, and biodegradable products like biodegradable bags, biodegradable plastics, biodegradable paper, biodegradable garbage bags, biodegradable trash bags, biodegradable films and biodegradable green materials. The sustainable wall boxes, rope handle bags, etc made on the basis of the green technology can be used over and over by the consumers.

Suppliers are working on cost-effective production methods to get prices down. Now almost all the companies are buying these go green solutions to show their responsibility to the environmental cause. Let us make a greener world which is a secure and hygienic place for our future generations to be.
